 OLDIES, GOLDIES

A Swedish proverb says ”gammal är äldst” (=old is older). The first weekend of the 2009-2010 campaign in the French championship, showed just that - more experience beats experience.

There were some buzzing and curious wondering about the Lyon-team prior to this weekend. Interesting reinforcements, long-time motivated and ambitious, hungry for victory - OUI, but it didn’t fly against the champs! The young roosters of Lyon got their cock-a-doodle-do stuck in their throat early on.

Lead by last year’s best goalie, along with a tremendous defensive effort and offensive efficiency, the reigning champions could take a first breather with a solid 3-0 lead. Patience and discipline then did the job when frustration and occasionally violent play of the opponents offered possibilities, (objectively speaking, far too seldom), in a 100% efficient power play.

IFk coach, lyric and epic after the game, said it must be, along with last year’s final, the best collective effort of the team ever.

Sunday game, against newcomers Besancon, saw a much less fierce battle. IFK "managed" 18 goals while not going full-speed. The question evoked afterwards in the French floorball community, initially towards IFK in flagrant accusingly fashion, was if Besancon enjoyed or actually learned something form that kind of lesson.

Did IFK?
